Day 6: July 4, 2024

Our third game was played at 4 in the afternoon. So in the morning we went to a shopping center to stretch our legs a little and have lunch. Finally it was game time. Today we faced a local team, from the Basque country. The rest of the SF United teams were playing on the same field after us, so the stands were full of teammates and family supporting us. We seem to be the locals and not the other team. Some parents even bought drums and our local guides helped organize the chants. The atmosphere was fabulous. The game was even from start to finish. They had two chances and scored, so at halftime we were 0-2 down on the scoreboard, but in the second half we gave our best version and scored 1-2. We were insisting until the end. In the last minute we had a pk in our favor. The tension was the atmosphere. If we scored and tied the game, we could have finished third in the group. Unfortunately the goddess of fortune were not on our side and we failed. We had a hard time digesting the loss, but we got over it and spent the entire afternoon singing and supporting the rest of the SFU teams.
